Peter joined the Association in 2009 seeking other rationalists. Peter founded the New Zealand Open Source Society in 2002 and was President of the Society until 2007.
In 2011 he became the Editor of 'The Open Society', the official journal of the NZARH. In this capacity he has promoted open, rational and objective policy in Government.
He has been active in promoting a secular New Zealand. In 2012 he initiated a project to form the Secular Education Network. He has also been involved with submissions to Government on secular education in New Zealand and the call to repeal the Nelson Clause in the Education Act.
